Anni Rapinoja::. Artist's website

The works of Anni Rapinoja, who has studied geography and botany, are the results of versatile studies,in which the theory and art are combined. Plants and parts of them, droppings of animals etc. are part of the cycle of the nature. In a certain stage of decomposition they transform to basis for new growth, to humus. The growth of forests, swamps and shores speak to the artist, who refers to willow, moose and reed as her workmates. The essence of the workmate has to be visible; the artist feels to be "only" the medium of this view. Sometimes also eco-energy: sun, wind or water is needed to give shape to the work. For example "Maan pallo" (The Sphere of Earth), originally built of green leaves of lingonberry, has got its fi nal colour of ochre by the effect of the sun during the years. The green lingonberry leaves are only just in the beginning of their process, though the artist's proportion and possibility to effect has fi nished. The shape motifs can start from plant morphology, cross-sections of seeds, crossections of flowers, for example. Individual works demand plenty of material collecting and patience. During last years alongside with "low-tech" there has come "high-tech": ventilators, microscopes, photographs and video, with which "video paintings" can be made.
